You can use red wine instead of sherry in recipes. Along with red wine you need to add 1 tsp of sugar per cup of wine in the recipe. Red wine is not an excellent substitute of sherry in recipes. Instead of red wine, you can use 1-2 tsp of vanilla extract or 2 tsp of orange or pineapple juice.
