Cakes can be made with or without the usage of yeast, which is a fungi. Traditional cakes like stollen and babka require yeast for leavening. However, other cakes likes sponge cake and cheesecake do not require yeast. A cake without yeast is generally made as follows:

·      Cake batter is prepared with flour, milk, egg, butter, and flavoring.

·      It is poured into a cake pan.

·     It is then baked until done.
