The native Indians preserved meat by drying it (small pieces) along with dry fruits and fat. They saved this dried meat in skin bags and used when they travelled, which they did a lot. The Indians prepared a dish called Pemmican which was purely meant for this purpose i.e., to be used when they were on the move.
