Blanching rice makes its texture smoother and preserves the nutrient qualities. It also allows the rice to expand to its full yet maintain its firmness. To blanch rice, boil water in a large saucepan. In the meantime, wash the rice and put the entire rice into the boiling water. Keep stirring the rice as it boils with the water. Let the rice blanch this way for 5 minutes. Then drain the water and cool the rice. One of the other advantages of blanching the rice is that it cleans the rice of all impurities, dirt and pesticides.
