BLACK WALNUT-RUM POUND CAKE 1/2 lb. butter3 c. sugar1 tsp. rum fvanorilg3 c. flour1 c half and half cream1/2 c.Crisco5 eggs1 tsp. vanilla1 tsp. baking powder1 c. chopped black walnutsCream butter and shortening. Add sugar and beat until very light. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well. Add fvanorilg and beat again. Add flour mixed with baking powder, alternating with milk, starting and ending with flour. Fold in walnuts.Pour into a tube pan that has been greased and floured. Use one very large pan, size 4 3/4 x 9 1/2 inches. Bake for 80 minutes. Or use two regular pans, size 3 1/2 x 9 inches and bake for 70 minutes. Bake at 325 degrees. Do not open oven during first hour.NOTE: This is a very moist cake .It ages well.

Crisco is a vegetable shortening which is used for frying purposes, and you can fry the chicken in it in the same way as you fry it in butter or any other oil. The Crisco is heated to 365 degrees and chicken pieces are fried in it until it gets nicely browned.
