Rice can be steamed with or without a steamer. Without a steamer rice may be cooked in a sauce pan by adding six cups of water to two cups of rice. The saucepan may be covered with a lid and stirred occasionally. This takes 45 minutes to cook. In a steamer normally 2 to 2 and a half cups of water must be added to 1 cup of rice to cook or as according to the instructions given by the rice cooker manufacturer. Rice cookers may be electric or non electric pressure cookers.
