For each cup of white all-purpose flour, we often substitute 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour with addition of 1/2 cup of whole wheat flour with it. Substituting equal amounts of whole wheat flour for all-purpose flour will not work well as the resulting product will likely have less volume and a coarser texture.
