Bagoong is a seafood condiment made in the Philippines. It is made by fermenting shrimp or fish in salt. While the dish provides you with the nutrients contained in fish, it is also high in salt. A tablespoon of bagoong is said to contain 400 mg of sodium. High salt content in food can result in:

·        Hypertension. Salt constricts the blood vessels, resulting in high blood pressure.

·        Heart disease. Prolonged hypertension and narrowed blood vessels lead to heart disease.

·        Kidney disease. Continued high blood pressure reduces the functioning of kidneys.

·        Stroke. This is caused by the high blood pressure, which is the result of high sodium intake.

Keeping all these reasons in mind, it is advised to consume bagoong in moderation.
