Tartaric acid is also known as cream of tartar and this is generally used as a leavening agent for snicker doodle cookies. However, this leavening agent could be substituted with baking soda and salt mixture. The cookies may not have the same texture though. Another ingredient that could be used as Cream of tartar substitute is white vinegar, which may alter the taste and texture of the dish.
