Cornstarch is used to thicken liquids. However, just as heating is required to make it thicken, you also need to allow it to set. Stirring it constantly even after thickening disturbs the setting process, and the liquid tends to become thin again. So refrain from stirring the sauce after it thickens, and let us know if it worked.
